ARC Raiders just got a much-needed Jan 10 hotfix after a hidden dev console let players wipe smoke, fog and blizzards for unfair vision, and Embark says it's investigating reports to keep extractions clean.

U4GM Why Embark Removed NewConsole And Saved ARC Raiders Fair Play

I've been living in ARC Raiders since the beta, and the whole drop-in, grab-the-good-stuff, get-out-alive loop still does something to my brain. You're counting bullets, scanning rooftops, praying the storm doesn't swallow your route. So when people started joking about "free wallhacks," I laughed—then I saw it in action, and it stopped being funny. A mate even messaged me about Raider Tokens buy like that was the real problem, but the truth was simpler: if visibility itself can be toggled off, the whole game turns into a coin flip.

When The Weather Vanished

My worst run was at Red Lakes during one of those brutal blizzards where you can barely see your own smoke. We popped a screen to rotate, did everything "right," and still got deleted by a solo who never missed. The kill cam was the part that made my stomach drop. On his side, it looked clear. No fog. No smoke. No storm. Just clean sightlines and free tracking while we were stumbling around in whiteout. You don't need to be a veteran to understand how busted that is.

The "NewConsole" Shortcut

Then the community figured out why. A leftover developer console—people called it "NewConsole"—was basically sitting there waiting for anyone willing to add a launch argument. No fancy injector, no shady overlay. You could mess with shadows, pull weather effects out of the match, and crank FOV in a way that felt like cheating even when you were "just testing." I tried it once before the fix to see how bad it got. It was worse than clips made it look. The tension disappears fast when the map stops fighting back.

Hotfix And The Aftertaste

On January 10, Embark dropped a hotfix and ripped the whole thing out. I tried the same flags the next night and got nothing—no console, no magic settings, no cheap clarity. And honestly, respect. Plenty of studios would've let that rot for weeks while players bled out of the playlist. It also dragged up the old chatter about that deleted early-2025 reveal trailer, like the team's hiding some original PvE plan. Maybe they are, maybe they aren't. I just want the version we're playing now to be fair and sharp.

Keeping Raids Clean

Since the patch, my squad's deaths feel normal again—bad peeks, slow rotates, greedy looting, the usual. You still hear people talk about skipping grind through third-party shops, especially after losing a full kit, but with anti-cheat tightening up it's a risky flex. If someone's going to spend money, they're going to look at places that sell currency or items, and that's where U4GM comes up in conversation, but the real win is logging off knowing you didn't need any shortcuts to earn your extract.
